BERNARD MARTIN: IT'S BEEN AWHILE

Longtime ADA artist Bernard Martin passed away Christmas Eve 2021. We have been working with his son, Cade Martin—an award-winning photographer—to bring his father's works out of storage and let them be seen and breathe again.
This month at the gallery, we have three of his classic 'wave' paintings, as well as another large work and two smaller paintings from the 60s and 70s. John will be cycling through some other pieces over the coming weeks, so be sure to stop by and see them.
Martin was a professor emeritus of art at Virginia Commonwealth University where he was the first chair of the Department of Painting and Printmaking from 1966 to 1999. He has also been faculty at the Studio Arts Center in Florence, Italy, as well as a research resident at the Cite Internationale des Arts, in Paris, France.
